Diversification of the region
Diversification of the region in CEDER Axarquia
Cultivation of tropical fruit has much proliferated in La Axarquía, avocados and mangos, regarding the diversification of these products, avocado already counts with some companies that are dedicated to industrialize it, transforming avocado into Guacamole and sauces, such as extraction of oils from avocado for different uses mainly cosmetic.
Due to the economic repercussion and the expected weight mango will have in the region it has been opted for the study of the diversification of itself.
Mango in the Axarquia:
Cultivation of mango in La Axarquia actually counts with an area of 3000 HA., and with the prospect of keeping on growing. Plantations are now in a initial state but it is expected that in around 5 years plantations reach their top production.
A HA. of mango in La Axarquia has got an average production that is estimated at 15,000 kg. so that we could reach a production of 35-45 million kg.
This situation makes us consider that in a near future we might have overproduction and more difficulties in marketing, having to reject fruit because of default, size etc.
As advance to this situation we look forward that the diversification could be a valid solution as a form of differentiation.
Regarding the possible forms of diversification it is proposed the followings:

- Mango
- Fresh fruit
- Fruit (classification, packaging, marketing, adapted to the new needs of the market)
- Manipulated Fruit (flesh of mango, pieces of fruit, gelatinous flesh of mango, syrup of mango, mango juice, mango nectar)
- For the industry
- Fat mango (fruit in its own juice, like ingredient of other products, like cosmetics, food sauces, fat ingredient division)
- Fresh fruit
- Subproducts
- Remains of poses (biomass)
- Pits (Biomass)
- Remains of industrialization (components for building, fertilizers, biomass)
In the marketing of products
- Improvement of the conditions of production
- Improvement of the conditions of sorting and packaging
- New designs of labels and packaging
- Improvements in sales, and marketing networks (direct sales, local markets, selling online, etc.)
- Agroturism
The aim of the diversification of this product is the valuation of it and the economic diversification for the estimulus of the rural enviroment, so that it contributes to the improvement of life quality making the population be fixed within a framework of sustainable development.
After the held meetings with the industry, producers, organizations of producers, dealers, entrepreneurs and other people concerned, it is proposed to study mango in fourth range and some other derived products like Smoothie and flesh of mango. It is also conceived, given the important of avocado in the region, to study it in fourth range as well.
