Geographical area of C.D.R. Valle del Guadalhorce
The Guadalhore Valley is located to the West of Malaga. It is formed by the municipalities of: Alhaurin el Grande, Almogía, Álora, Cártama, Coín, whiteboard and Valle de Abdalajís.
Surrounded by mountains, inside Valley is characterized by close to the River vegas dominated by the mountain ranges of Álora Hacho Gibralmora whiteboard, Cártama Sierra and Sierra Gorda, Coín girl. The relief is very steep, serve to highlight the highest point is 1079 m above the sea level and the lowest 75 m, this is very short distandcias. We found the presence of faults, ravines, desfiladeros… which give uniqueness to the landscape and favours the panoramic views.
Two rivers pirncipales cross Valley, the Guadalhorce and Rio Grande, streams and causing the Guadalhorce flood seasons of rain runoff.
In flora and fauna we have our own climate in which we find ourselves and the geographical bearing that highlight some endemic species and specializations linked to soil type. We have the presence of species such as the African rupicapnos between vegetation or ciconia nigra passing the winter periods in our region.
Human activity has been determined by soil and wealth in water, it has determined the types of crops in different areas, and has contributed to the current landscape. Dry and slopes areas we find cultivation of olive trees and almond trees, as the ground softens find areas of cereal and lately starts to recover the cultivation of vines. In irrigated areas we have more extensive citrus orchards and small vegetables and fruit orchards.
The extensive network of livestock routes testifies to the importance of livestock in the area, mainly goats.
There are some small-scale mines open with an important acitvidad due to the boom in the sector of construction, which is one of the main economic activities in the area.
Regarding industry emphasizes the importance of the agri-food industry in the area for agricultural diversity of the territory, among them we can find olive dressing industries, the carnicas, pastry shops and bakeries, packaging of honey, etc. It is also stressed the importance in the area and auxiliary construction.
G.D.R. Valle de Guadalhorce has been working on putting into value of local products from its origins as a cultural identity and the generation of employment and wealth in the territory at the same time contributing to the maintenance of our agro-ecosystems.
